How Beach Cleaning is Helpful!

I was looking for ways to contribute to the volunteer space in Singapore, and beach clean-ups seemed to be the easiest to start off with.

The beach-cleaning event organized by Blossom World Society made me reflect on what it means to take action for a cause I care about. It also made me reflect upon whether the education I received in environmental sciences propagated a desire for myself to better care for the environment.

I valued the Blossom World Society’s emphasis that participating in beach clean-up sessions is only a response to the root problem of pollution. Their provision of materials for me to learn more about the environmental crisis was helpful. On top of that, the passion and friendliness of the organizers was positively infectious!

During the clean-up session, styrofoam fragments constituted a significant portion of the rubbish recovered from the shore. This made me reflect on how the takeaway containers that my family frequently utilize for takeout meals contribute to the pollution of our ecosystem.  As such, I’d like to start by making an effort to bring a reusable container out with me more often so that I can avoid using as many disposable containers.
