Our selfish act kills

Although I did not choose to join this event as my seniors organised the activity for our VIA(values in action), I still had a significant takeaway from this event. I learnt that in Singapore, there are many irresponsible beachgoers who leave behind their trash such as plastic straws, plastic bags, food wrappers and containers. As I was picking up the litter at the park, I realised how important it is to pick up after ourselves since there are many different animals living near the seashore or in the sea. For instance, I observed that there are many plastic straws near the homes of the hermit crabs. I saw many dead ones and I suspected that one of the reasons could be because they had mistaken the plastic trash as food and had eaten them, leading to their death. Moreover, what I appreciated from this event was that many of my friends were all determined to pick up as much rubbish from the beach as we could, to make Pasir Ris Park a cleaner place and a safer living environment for the wildlife. Lastly, I would like to pledge that I will be a responsible Singapore citizen and pick up after myself when going to the beach and the next time I see litter near the shore I will pick it up, even if it is not mine.
